Don and Deedy McKenna were both executives in Home Depot's early
days when there were only six stores and 6,000 employees. Two thousand stores
and 60,000 employees later, they retired and looked for a place with a
year-round environment where they could live, raise a family and indulge their
passions for sailing golf, tennis and nature. Also on their wish list was a
small-town atmosphere and a wealth of nearby water activies as well as inland
diversions. Through their search, they discovered Hilton Head, with its twelve
miles of golden sand beaches, pine forests, palmetto palms and moss-draped oaks.
With its well-preserved natural environment, its good schools for their young
boys, and its blend of diverse cultures, they knew they had found home.
