It all started for Polly Lyster when she was working as a quilt maker, and her godmother asked her to make one of indigo. Needing to learn more, she attended a workshop run by Jenny Balfour-Paul, the leading authority on the history and use of indigo. That was eleven years ago, and fulfilling a godmother’s commission has turned into a life’s passion. “I was dyeing so much that my fingers were permanently blue, and indigo was leaving its mark on everything around the house, from door knobs to curtain edges,” Polly says.
