The bucolic sights and sounds of midsummer welcome visitors to the Artful Garden, an outdoor art exhibit, held at the Muskoka farm and studio of artists Jon and Suzann Partridge. A chipper chorus of birdsong accompanies the drowsy hum of honeybees foraging in fragrant flowering shrubs and lush perennials. Clusters of ruby-red bee balm, copper-kissed rudbeckia, and showy purple hollyhocks tilt their heads flirtatiously toward the garden gate where guests enter the grounds. This first encounter with the Partridge farm merely hints at the oasis of quiet and beauty that lies further along the lane. Artfully tucked into the flower, herb, and vegetable gardens that surround the farmhouse are works of art that perch and preen alongside the voluptuous peonies, elegant clematis, and sensually swaying tall grasses. “Part of the intrigue,” smiles Jon Partridge, “is that visitors can’t really see anything from the road, so the effect is magnified when they catch the first glimpse of the art and gardens.”
