Cottage Charmer

Cottage life, it is about relaxing, about savoring that most ephemeral of moments: now. It is a life that revels in simple pleasures—a walk with the dog at dawn on the beach, a sprig of fresh mint plucked from the garden and dropped into a tall glass of lemonade. It is all about a morning spent tooling around town on a bike, filling its basket with goodies from the farmers’ market. It is an evening passed watching the sun set with family and friends on the porch. Jane Coslick has worked to preserve this lifestyle on Tybee, a barrier island off the Georgia coast. Since 1992, she has resuscitated over three dozen cottages, turning eyesores into eye candy. For her efforts, she has won acclaim from neighbors, in magazines, in books (including Brian Coleman’s gorgeous Cottages), and from the Tybee Island Historical Society, which recently officially declared her “Our Soul and Inspiration.”
